It’s a Stytchiversary! Meet Allison Chuang!

What do you love most about working at Stytch? 

Most definitely the people! I’ve had so much fun working at Stytch because of the people I work with. I also love that at this size of a company you have the opportunity to get to know everyone and are constantly meeting new people as they join. Grateful to have been able to make so many friends here.

What does a typical day at Stytch look like for you?

It really depends on what I’m working on for the month. I like to be around people, so I go into the office most days. I would say I generally spend around 65% of my time doing technical work and my remaining time syncing with teammates, interviewing, etc.

What’s been the most surprising thing about Stytch?

Just how many features / products I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate on and build out this year!

Stytch has gone from 0-1 in the last year, what have been some of your biggest learnings about joining an early stage company?

I knew that early stage companies evolve quickly, but I didn’t realize how fast things would change. Every 3 months I feel like I am at a totally different company from the previous 3 and I’ve really enjoyed seeing the team grow. It’s so important to be able to adapt to all the changes that come with a startup and I’ve learned a ton along the way.

What’s your favorite part of the Stytch culture?

I love how collaborative everyone here is at Stytch. I feel like I can go to anyone to get more context on something and they’ll happily take time out of their day to get me up to speed. At this point I’ve worked on projects that spanned across both eng and non-eng and it’s always been a really rewarding experience being able to collaborate together.

Which Stytch value resonates most with you and why?

“Own it”

It’s exciting to own a full product from start to end and to see the amount of impact it creates. It also promotes a level of accountability within the company in a way that I know everyone I work with is putting in their best effort.

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on at Stytch?

I was part of the core team that launched Vessel a few weeks back. It was definitely a wild ride jumping into a consumer product for the first time, but I had a ton of fun building out the UI from scratch and thinking through all the different user interactions for the extension.

How did you end up working in Software Engineering?

I actually went into college thinking I would major in English or Psychology. I took an introductory CS course to fulfill an education requirement and realized how much I enjoyed the logic of it / the ability to create something out of nothing. And I was also pretty good at it! 

When’s the last time you did something for the first time and what was it?

I started taking long walks around the city not too long ago. It’s been a nice way to reset my brain and to appreciate everything around me. And not to mention SF has some incredible views.

What song, hobby, or recipe got you through COVID?

I got really into pickleball during COVID and have been playing around 1-2 times a week since. If you’re looking to get into the sport — hit me up. It’s super fun, I promise!

What’s your ideal weekend?

Friends, authentic Chinese food in Outer Sunset, a long walk through Golden Gate Park.

What’s something you’re passionate about that’s not on your resume?
