Today we’re excited to share that Stytch is being acquired by Twilio. Our mission remains the same: to eliminate friction on the internet by helping developers build better identity experiences – for your users and, now, the AI agents acting on their behalf.
By bringing together Stytch’s identity stack and agent-ready integrations with Twilio’s trusted communication infrastructure and extensive data, developers will have a stronger foundation to build and secure the next generation of AI-powered, context-aware applications.
We’ll continue to develop and support the Stytch platform, just now with more resources to accelerate our product roadmap and a united Stytch-Twilio team focused on helping you, our customers, succeed.
In the age of AI, identity isn’t just another piece of the stack, it’s foundational. And we couldn’t be more excited to join Twilio to push this work forward and give you the tools to build what comes next.
Twilio x Stytch: trust at scale, built for developers
Twilio is the most trusted brand for reaching users in the channels they care about. We know this firsthand—we’ve long used Twilio across our SMS, Email, and WhatsApp verification products. Two advantages make this combination uniquely powerful:
- Trusted reach at global scale. Twilio’s communications rails are how businesses reliably connect with customers worldwide. Pair that with Stytch’s authentication and fraud prevention infrastructure and developers get channel-aware identity out of the box – reach your users wherever they are, prevent fraud and abuse, and deliver a seamless user experience.
- Unparalleled reputation data to protect against fraud and abuse while delivering a seamless user experience. Virtually every sign-up and login flow collects either phone number, email address, or both. Twilio’s phone and email reputation graphs provide high signal intelligence into the risk of a user (has this email or phone been seen before? Has the phone number recently been SIM swapped? etc) and enable a trust network and enforcement layer that’s unavailable elsewhere today. Combined with Stytch’s device intelligence and fine-grained controls we’ll continue to help stop abuse earlier and reduce false friction for real users.
This is about more than security, it's how businesses acquire, engage, and retain customers – connecting authentication, fraud prevention, and personalization into a unified experience.
Serving the next interface: humans and their agents
Identity isn’t just for people anymore. Apps need to recognize, authorize, and audit actions taken by AI agents – sometimes delegated by a human, sometimes autonomous within strict scopes.
Stytch has already been investing significantly here, helping apps become Claude Connectors, ChatGPT Apps, or ship remote MCP servers while building the primitives for agent-ready auth: scoped tokens, granular permissions, and human-in-the-loop step-up.
With Twilio’s channels and infrastructure supporting us, we’ll double down on building for an agentic future so that everyone has secure access to your application regardless of whether that’s via human or agent.
What to expect next
For Stytch customers, you’ll get the benefits of Twilio, which means global scale, more resources, and long-term stability.
- No immediate changes to your contracts, pricing, SDKs, API keys, or integrations or overall Stytch experience.
- Greater scale. Expect deeper fraud defenses, richer verification options, and more global coverage by combining Stytch’s identity stack with Twilio’s infrastructure and data.
- Continued investment in cutting edge identity products. We’re deepening our focus on building for the future where humans and agents both need to be authenticated and authorized. We’ll continue to stay one step ahead of emerging trends and protocols so you can easily adapt to the future of agents, MCP, and whatever comes next.
Thank you
To our customers: thank you for trusting us as critical infrastructure and pushing us to build the best possible products. Your feedback shaped our APIs, your edge cases became our features. We’re excited to accelerate our roadmap with the combined power of Twilio and Stytch and build more products to help you accelerate your own growth.
To the Stytch team: you turned a belief, late nights, highs-and-lows into an identity platform that’s already powered hundreds of millions of users and thousands of apps. Joining forces with Twilio gives us a significantly larger stage, but we’ll be taking many pages from the same playbook: we’ll obsess over improving the developer experience, eliminating friction, and shipping quickly to meet our customers’ (and their users’) needs.
We’re looking forward to furthering our mission of building identity infrastructure to make the internet easier and safer for humans and agents.
